The Silver Lining

This semester has been hard on both of us. Cory's sweet niece passed away. I got in a {small} car wreck. Cory ended up in the hospital with an allergic reaction. My sister is still ill. Our workloads are piling up, and we're just trying to graduate (and plan a wedding, and find jobs, and make a living). So when Cory texted me, "Call me. It's serious." Monday morning while I was at work, it was just about all I could take.

Cory was doing pull-ups when the bar came loose from the door frame. He fell to the ground, hitting his head, shoulder and back along the way. Thank God he wasn't alone, and his friend Ryan drove him to the hospital.

I immediately left work to check on him. Thankfully he didn't have a concussion, and his collar bone wasn't broken as we had originally suspected (although it was dislocated, we later discovered, and the doctors neglected to tell us that).

I took care of him all night, just as he has many a time for me.

Although this was a major inconvenience, we're both just thrilled he's going to be alright. We hate that he's out of work for a while. That the hospital bills keep rolling in (along with the other bills). That he's still sore to move.

However, once again we've found the silver lining.

Life is hard. Growing up is hard-- good GRIEF adult-ing is hard. But we aren't alone. Not only do we have amazing friends who will drive us to the hospital at a moment's notice and wait with us for hours; not only do we have dads who will drive two hours after work just to make sure your car is okay; not only do we have mothers who call to check on us constantly....but we also have each other.

Life keeps happening, and we can't stop that. But I wouldn't want to "do life" with anyone else.

Cory's Hospital Visit

PS: I truly fear for our children. If they inherit my grace (or lack thereof) and Cory's reckless nature, we are in for a whirlwind someday! HA!
